Ok, so possible epiphany time: You know how in the Billy Joel song "You May Be Right" where he says: 

"Remember how I found you there
Alone in your electric chairI told you dirty jokes until you smiled."?

Well...what if the person he was singing about was the same person in the Elton John song "Someone Saved My Life Tonight"? That song as has a line about person sitting in an electric chair.
The line goes "Prima donna Lord you really should have been there; Sitting like a princess perched in her electric chair." Soooo, what if Billy Joel was at the same party as Elton John, and told dirty jokes to that person to make 'em laugh?

Food for thought.

Welcome to a very rare Friday edition of the House.

You all know by now that unlike the honest working man and The Beatles, I, Mr.Morbid, prefer to work 4 days a week, instead of the customary 5 or in some cases 8. But with my mind buzzing and working overtime about certain events and topic in the comic world, I felt I couldn't wait until monday to unload my thoughts and opinions on at least one of these topics.

What topic I'm am I talking about?? How about this already hot topic I read from Bleedingcool.com, that's proving to be so hot, it's positively incendiary!

Undercover movie execs apparently went to some random comic book stores to gage fan/store owner interest in what the ideal JLA roster would be for them if and when DC ever finally puts out a JLA movie.

So despite doing a horrible job of trying to pose as random comic fans(go figure), the topic soon took a rather nasty and unexpected turn, when the question was asked "What do you think of Frank Miller doing the JLA?"

Yeah. That was an actual question, by actual movie execs.

Quickly, but not unsurprisingly, many fans and industry professionals alike all had an opinion on this, and also not unsurprisingly, it wasn't all positive.

Take legendary comic artist Kevin Maguire for example.

I couldn't have said it any better myself.

But I will expand on those thoughts with some proof provided by Miller's own work.

Of course who doesn't already know and love his legendary "The Dark Knight Returns" work right?
Well what were the JLA doing in that story? Anyone?

Nothing, because they were disbanded by order of the US Government. They let themselves, in the story, be   told what to do and when to do it by a single government, even if it was our own. As we all know, that's not how the League really works, since they're supposed to be above all that, and not solely employed by or be mandated to any country's government.

On other words, they're the ultimate in independent workers.

But not in Frank Miller's world they weren't, especially Superman, who was reduced to being used as a blindly loyal government lapdog.

What's worse, is that that line of reasoning was used in Darwyn Cooke's excellently written and drawn New Frontier story.

In the very beginning of that one, Superman's used primarily as a tool of the US Government as well. But unlike Miller's Superman, Cooke's Superman quickly realizes he's been duped, and decides from there on, he's nobody's lapdog or tool.

Later on, in the 2005-08 abortion of a series Miller worked on called All-Star Batman and Robin, Miller once again ridicules and belittles the Justice League by choosing to portray them as Stupid, petty, and disorganized gods with power. Basically treating them as nothing more than jokes, as pointed by that series' Batman.

So basically, would you trust this man with DC's biggest franchise outside of Superman and Batman?

Yeah I don't so.

Let's hope enough dissenting fans and comic industry professionals let their voices and opinions be heard, so that this little scenario never, ever becomes reality, no matter how desperate Warner Bros. might be at the moment.

Who's in the mood for a quickie?

Another weekend survived, so I can't complain.

Here's some random bits of info that caught my attention:

WWE pro-wrestler CM Punk is not a big fan of Grant Morrison.
Here's what he had to say in relation to who his favorite superhero is, and why  he doesn't read his monthly adventures:
“I’m a huge Batman fan. Unfortunately I can’t read a lot of the Batman comics that come out because they’re written by Grant Morrison and I’m not a huge Grant Morrison guy, I read comics based on who’s writing,  I know that’s not really a populist view but it’s the only thing I can tolerate right now, my favourite comic book writer… nobody asked but I’m going to tell you anyway… is Ed Brubaker.”

I find this very interesting since CM Punk is very intelligent and articulate person, who's straight edge and seems well-read. I would have figured since Grant Morrison is the type of writer who makes the reader think, he would have been up Punk's alley, but no go.
Instead he prefers the stylings of Ed Brubaker, who really isn't too shabby himself.

Speaking of Morrison, DC Comic's online blog reported that over the weekend, NPR had a sit-down interview w/ Grant. Here's what the synopsis had to say about that:

Head on over to NPR to listen to the full interview and hear Grant talk about how he got into the industry, what inspires him as a writer, the fundamental differences between Batman and Superman, and the cultural relevancy of comic books. Speaking of wrestling, I recently found out that Adam Jones, guitarist of Tool,(yes Tool) performed the national anthem during last night's WWE Summerslam PPV. I didn't even know he had even been considered to sing the national anthem much less actually do it. I'd like to know whether or not if the band wanted to do this or just have a band member represent them. It would have been fucking sick if the entire band performed the anthem, as I have a hard time visualizing how that would sound. I'd imagine it'd be as mind-blowing as when Jimi Hendrix performed the "Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock, with the people in attendance wondering WTF just happened.

And finally,

It appears that over 700 people have petitioned the popular kid's show,  Sesame Street, to allow Bert and Ernie to marry....as in a gay marriage. What!?
Listen people it's like this: Officially they're just good friends, and for the benefit of our kids and future generations yet to discover the show, let them stay that way.
Unofficially, sure they might be gay, but what's the rush into having them get married? Haven't they just enjoyed living together for what, over 40 years. Why make 'em get married?

I just don't get the fascination of certain people/peoples to have to label everything; we're all created different, but with with same rights as everyone else. Why do always have to label things? Are we as a society that threatened by uncertainty?

While they're nothing wrong with gays wanting to get married, let's just leave puppets and animals alone okay? No need to complicate their lives like we do our own.
I hope the people behind Sesame Street don't bow to this ridiculous petition, and just leave well enough alone.

Odds and Ends.....

Feeling really lazy today, so I guess I'll do what people like to call "phoning it in."  I figured I'd at least show off some of the skit pictures that didn't make it to the main posts. You know, like the deleted scenes people like to watch on the Extras feature on dvds.

Here's one. It's probably just me, but for some reason the DCUC Blue Devil figure's face looks almost like George Harrison circa 1987. You be the judge:

You can kinda' see it if you just add horns and make him bald. I don't know, must be all the wine I drank yesterday.

Remember that episode? Classic Seth McFarlene. Too bad the current season sucks. Seriously, he was kicking ass with the earlier seasons and with less money. But now that he has an almost unlimited budget at his disposal, he gives us crap instead?  Tsk, tsk. At least American Dad's still rolling along with the funny. And no, I'm not counting The Cleveland Show because quite frankly it sucks! The 1st season was alright, but not that good enough to warrent another one. To me, Cleveland only worked as a supporting character that works best when he's embroiled into Peter's constantly crazy schemes. He's a sideman, like Quagmire and Joe, and should've remained as one instead of being shoved down our throats.
Sorry, that's just how I feel.

And while I'm discussing Seth Mcfarlene, my fiancee' and I have wondered for awhile, why Seth always includes animals in his shows. There was the evil monkey and evil chicken on Family Guy; Roger the alien(yes he's not an animal but is close enough) and Klaus the fish on American Dad, and Tim the bear on The Cleveland Show. I'm not complaining, so much as wondering why include animals in his casts.

And finally........
 I don't know how many of you are up to snuff on the current Green Lantern storylines, but it seems like Sinestro's going to be a GL again. I don't know how Geoff Johns is going to pull that one off, but it'll be interesting to see how he does it. And yes, he's a villain and works better written as one, but Johns has been seemingly working on a "Sinestro Rehabilitation" for awhile now. So it's not like this is completely out of left field. Plus DC Direct's putting out a new GL Sinestro figure, so you tell me. It's been suggested by various comic message boards, that Johns is looking to restore things back to how they were before Sinestro went bad in time for the GL movie that's coming out this summer. I'm not really sure I want to go see this movie; mostly because they could've picked a better actor  than Ryan Renolds as Hal Jordan.  I will say the ugly costumes aside, at least the special effects look really good!  Maybe I'll rent it when it comes out on dvd. I myself prefer the last part of the Harry Potter movie series that's also coming out this summer; July to be exact. And then there's Chris Nolan and Christopher Bale's last Batman movie to look forward to next year. I loved the last movie over the first one, but quickly became disenfranchised with Bale's Batman growl voice. It got reallll annoying after awhile. Aside from that he's not a bad Batman.
