Dream Waves: Codename: Strykeforce

TGIF!!!!!!


I was bored and thought, "Fuck it, why not make a nother post for the week and do a Dream Waves one," and thus we arrive at the main topic for today's post: A Dream Waves article about the Top Cow/Image Comics team, Codename: Strykeforce. 

Strykeforce was/is a team created by Marc Silvestri in 1994 as a spin-off to his team Cyberforce, much in the same way that X-Force was a spin-off of the X-Men (and New Mutants).

Led by then former Cyberforce member Stryker, Codename: Strykeforce was a team of super-powered mercenaries hired to be problem-solvers by whoever paid for their services.
Unlike most mercs, these were the good guys, much in the way that the A-Team were good guys, helping out those in need.

The series never lasted long, only lasting about 14 issues, then had a very brief 5 issue revival in 2004.

Much like Cyberforce, I'd love to see figures made out of the team, and hell honestly a lot of other Top Cow/Image Comics characters as well.

But today I'm just focusing on Codename: Strykeforce and who I'd ideally make action figures out of.
This one will be quick, since the main roster is pretty small, and they really didn't have much in the way of a regular rogue's gallery of villains to choose from.


Codename: Strykeforce Wave 1:


1). Stryker 

2.) Tempest 

She's got two main looks, besides her debut outfit which is fugly ass hell even by early 90's standards. I've included the two costumes that best suit her.


3). Bloodbow 

4). Killrazor 

Probably inspired by Deadpool and Wolverine, this tough-ass, silent fighter would come with two alternate heads; one battle-damaged, and the other unmasked.
He'd also have attachable/removable knife-blade thingies that could snap on to his forearms and back/shoulder.


5). Icarus

6). Sh'rrrnn/Female Bloodbow  

Ok so the story behind this is Sh'rrrnn is a member of an alien shape-shifting race called the Shu'roch who accidentally kills Bloodbow and decides to take his place as a way of honoring him. Weird I know, but that's what they did. I've included her original form, but I'd rather have a figure made of her in her female Bloodbow look.


7). Dark Angel 

 

The teams first and only true comic book villain. He doesn't last long, but every good guy needs a villain to fight right?

Ok, so some quick notes:

• There was another team member in Strykeforce named Phade, but I can't find any images of the poor guy. Sure he died in his first appearance, but so did fellow teammate Icarus and at least I find two good pictures of him. So that's why I left him out.
• I could include one other bad guy, Rancor Deathstrike, who's basically Stryker's main rival. Here's what he looks like if you're the least bit curious:

Anyhoo that's how I imagine a wave of Codename: Strykeforce figures to look like.

Dream Waves: Cyberforce

Another day, another edition of Dream Waves, where I present to you oh faithful, loyal reader, how I would layout and distribute my ideal waves/lines of action figures based off certain comic book properties.

This time around it's Marc Silvestri's turn, as I highlight what I'd do if I could put out a line of figures based off his X-Men homage/rip-off team, Cyberforce.

Yes dear friends, much like  Jim Lee's WildC.A.T.S. were created to take advantage of the enormous popularity of the Uncanny X-Men back then, as well as being a former artist for said franchise, so did another former X-Men artist in Silvestri create his own version of the X-Men for him to play with.

I mean look at them, how do they NOT look like knock-offs the real thing?

But hey, it's not like I didn't collect those knock-offs back in the day. I sure did. In fact one of my fondest memories is of buying Cyberforce#1 right off the old spinner rack at the local grocery store, Keen's, when I lived in Vero Beach, Florida back in the early 90's.

I collected them for awhile before dropping off, and started picking up other Top Cow titles instead.

After hanging around until the end of the 90's Cyberforce disappeared with the overwhelming popularity of other Top Cow creations such as Witchblade, The Darkness, and Aphrodite IX. 



But they've recently had a revival of sorts for this new era, being slightly redesigned and repackaged for a whole new audience.


What I'll focus on today mostly, is their original looks, although I don't see why I can't throw one or two of the new designs in there for kicks.

At first I was going to leave out this Ares Prime guy, but the accompanying scene where he calls all those S.H.O.C. troopers pussies won me over.

I did include other new additions like Aphrodite V and Barricade.
