RIP Greg Allman (1947-2017)

Don't know if you already heard, but we lost another legend over the weekend.....

Greg Allman, founder of the Rock and Roll HOF inductees the Greg Allman Band, died at the age of 69 at his home in Richmond hill, GA.

He's quoted as saying, " I said, other people can write songs, let's see if I can. So the first 400 or 500 wound up on the floor somewhere. Then I wrote one called Melissa."

 And the rest was rock and roll history and a very lucrative career....

Well, regardless, I hope you're wherever you are, you're enjoying your Memorial Day. Hey, it's not like you got a choice since nothing else is open today;)

Random Questions That Keep Us Up At Night#808

What's up people?

Did you get a chance to enjoy last weekend's FCBD? Get any cool stuff?
I did.


First photo's of two FCBD comics I got, the Civil War 2 one and a Doctor Who one.
Bought Original Sin Annual#1, and two issues of Gail Simone's Surviving Megalopolis. It's really good so far guys.

This one's of the third and final issue of the DC mini-series Twilight, to finally complete my collection. #1 of Dark Reign: Lethal Legion, and #3 of Dark Reign: Zodiac. That Zodiac one's fucking nuts, but in the best possible way. Love it!

Finally founded two vital issues of Morrison's Multiversity epic, with Multiversity: Ultra Comics#1 and Multiversity#2. And for pure nostalgic reasons, I picked up Bloodstrike#5. Its the one where Supreme straight butchers the entire team( minus Deadlock). Not as shocking to me now as it was back then when I first read it, but still fun to see people getting fucked up in a very graphic and violent way.

This one shows off the final three issues I needed of of the Extremist Vector story line from JLE#'s 17-19.

Probably could've gotten this a little cheaper, but still, not a bad price for this first collection of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol run.

Only paid 5$ for this used TPB of the criminally underrated Secret Six series by Gail Simone, Secret Six: Danse Macabre.

#1 of Sandman Mystery Theatre (I think I have this one already) and from Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run, Swamp Thing#52.

Speaking of Swampy, did you know Mark Millar(yes that Mark Millar) had a run writing Swamp Thing back in the day? This is the trade of the last portion of his run, and it's pretty damn good.

It's called Swamp Thing: Darker Genesis.

This one features #'s 4, 7, 10-12 of The Shade maxi-series by James Robinson. Cully Hammer's work surprisingly fits the tone of this one, even though I guess I a more darker-looking art style might've been more expected.

This one shows off me finally finding the third issue to the truly, TRULY criminally-underrated Doctor Mid-Nite mini-series by Matt Wagner and John K. Snyder III, thus completing that collection, as well as Starman#34, and Ballistic#5. (Finally found at least one issue of Ballistic Goo!)

In this one, #'s 8 and 9 of Secret Wars. I figured, why not. And the first two issues of the just relaunched( again) Moon Knight series written by Jeff Lemire. Loving the art by Greg Smallwood, especially those covers. Jesus, what a prefect fucking fit!

Here's some more FCBD comics, The Devil' Due Mix tape 2016 featuring Mike Baron's Badger, One-Punch Man, Valiant 2016, 2000AD 2016(always enjoy those every year), and the new ROM series. Don't know if you've already checked it out Shlomo, but it's not a bad start that does honor Mantlo's run.

Finally, here's #'s 3-5 (of 7) of Deathlok The Demolisher, a nice 7-issue mini-series by Charlie Huston, you know, the guy who restored Moon Knight back to glory in 2006? Yeah, he's pretty much doing the same here too, but with Deathlok.

Still looking for those new Civil War ML figures, but I did buy this ML Black Widow figure. I guess $17.99's not bad, especially considering how much this figures goes for online, especially Amazon.

Top 5: My Top 5 Favorite David Bowie Albums

Woke up this morning to discover that Rock Icon David Bowie recently passed away at the age of 69 after battling cancer.

Damn....hard to realize the Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, David Jones....is gone and left us to fend with our own battles with the Spiders from Mars.

















He was everything they said he was and more......a true legend and pioneer. He will definitely, definitely be missed.......

In the spirit of today, rather than being super-sad and somber about it, I figured I'd celebrate what I (and doubtlessly and you all out there) loved about Bowie, in particular his ground-breaking albums that still continue influence countless artists and musicians to today.


5). Pin-Ups (1973)- 


Sure it's really just a big cover album, but where else are you going to find Bowie cover songs like Pink Floyd's "See Emily Play", or "Where Have All The Good Times Gone" by the Kinks?
On this album, that's where. Love that fucking cover too by the way. It's the famous 60's fashion model Twiggy, posing with Bowie in case you were wondering.


4). Diamond Dogs (1974)-















Part Bowie's interpretation of author George Orwell's classic novel about big brother, 1984, and part glam rock swan song, Diamond Dogs is what emerged from the wreckage of Bowie's previous glam albums Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane. With this album, Bowie not only gave us another imaginary world to ponder(a post-apocalyptic glam world) but his final world on all things Glam, before ditching the whole movement for a new sound. Damn, that cover though!!!!!

3). Aladdin Sane (1973)-


Described by Bowie himself as "Ziggy Stardust in America", Aladdin Sane (itself a play on the words A Lad Insane) is the swansong album for Bowie's Ziggy Stardust persona. He'd move on officially after this album, but with songs like "Watch That Man", "Time", "The Prettiest Star", "Lady Grinning Soul", and "Jean Genie", he left us with a hell of a parting gift.


2). Hunky Dory (1971)-

Picking up where his previous album, 1970's The Man Who Sold The World", left off as far as Bowie's continued maturation as an artist, Hunky Dory is  where Bowie gathers up most of his pop and folk musical influences, and puts them all out on display for us. It's his way of giving thanks by homaging folk/pop singers of the time like Bob Dylan. This is the album that also introduced us all to one of his immortal and most associated hits, "Changes."

1).  The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972)-

This is the album that truly made Bowie a star. Every song on this album is so perfectly-crafted and arranged from "Five Years" to "Rock and Roll Suicide", that it's hard to find an absolute favorite hit on here, as you have two equally powerful and clever songs on each side, all very much worth the price of admission.  If you haven't already, do yourself a massive solid, and check out the movie created to go along with the phenomenon that was this album. You won't regret it.

I also highly recommend listening to his other albums, especially, Low(1977),  The Man Who Sold The World(1970), Young Americans(1975), Scary Monsters and Super Creeps(1980), and The Next Day(2013). He had just released his latest album, Blackstar not too long before his passing, so give it a listen and see what you think.
