So, Who Would Win?: Thanos VS. Apocalypse

A couple days ago while searching for some Gamora images, I came across, what was probably a bit of fan-fiction. It had Gamora talking to Apocalypse, yes, the X-Men's Apocalypse, and she said the following words:

"You know my father used to tell us stories about you, and laugh."

That made up quote really stuck with me. So much so, that here we are as I ask the question what if Thanos fought Apocalypse? How would that look like? And what would the reasoning be?

If we were to take that quote by Gamora as truth, than one would expect that Thanos looks down on Apocalypse. But why?

My guess would be, Thanos has seen Apocalypse, maybe even kept tabs on him over the many years of his existence, and has seen all of Apocalypse's schemes and long-made plans ultimately fail.

"For one someone who touts for, and champions the survival of fittest, it's ironic to see you, who envisions himself the strong worthy of survival, you have shown yourself to be the opposite; weak and very unfitting of surviving."

So why would Thanos even go through with fighting Apocalypse seeing how low he thinks of him?
My best guess for a likely scenario, is that 'Pocy has access to some hidden bit of celestial technology, since he's had frequent contact with them, and maybe Thanos has need of it.

Either way it'll be a battle between two guys who are both long-term thinkers and planners, that prefer to operate through henchmen rather than directly, unless the situation calls for it.

And they're both very strong and powerful individuals as well, so there's that.

The interesting bit of the differences between them.
Thanos is an eternal, an extremely long-living being who courts death.
Apocalypse is an immortal mutant who's also long-living, and he seeks to postpone his date with death.
What they have in common though is....
Thanos is his own worst enemy, having tasted universe-shaking power, only to fall prey to his own self-doubt.

Apocalypse is own worst enemy, who's henchmen continually fail him, and falls prey to underestimating his opponents.

Thanos has the following powers:
AbilitiesSuperhuman strength, durability, endurance, and intelligence
Energy manipulation

Apocalypse has the following powers:
  • Genius-level intellect
  • Telekinesis
  • Telepathy
  • Technopathy
  • Teleportation
  • Immortality
  • Invulnerability
  • Regenerative healing factor
  • Reality warping
  • Super strength, speed and reflexes
  • Matter, energy and mass manipulation
It definitely looks like a physical battle between the two will be a very long fought one.
