What The Fuck Were They Thinking: Frog-Man

TGIF!!!!!!

Frog-Man.
Let that name sink in for a minute. Not really a terrifying name is it?

Well apparently that little fact, not to mention the re-donk-ulous frog suit, didn't stop one Eugene Patilio from naming himself that, and deciding to do his part to rid the world of crime.

No, seriously.

It seems Mr. Patilio's dad was once a super-villain named Leapfrog.
He was a failure as a regular criminal, who graduated into a super-failure once he invented a special electrical coil system that allowed him to jump high distances and don a giant frog suit.

As was to be expected he never amounted to much, becoming a regular punching bag for various heroes, but primarily Daredevil.

Thankfully he decided to give it all up after the many numerous beat-downs he received.

This is is where his son Eugene comes into the picture. Feeling really ashamed and embarrassed because of his father's failed career as a super-villain, Eugene decided to go the other way, and become a superhero in order to atone for his father's actions.

And thus the scourge of all super-villains was born.
No, not really....

Frog-Man first appeared in Marvel Team-Up#121 (September 1982), created by writer J.M. DeMattesis and artist Kerry Gammill.

One time Frog-Man tried to be Spider-Man's sidekick, but found competition for the "role" in the unlikely form of the Toad.

No, you read that right.

Froggy and the Toad(Magneto's former lackey whipping boy from the first Brotherhood of Evil Mutants) battled it out to be Spidey's sidekick.....to Spidey's doubtless frustration.

Other than that, Froggy's popped up here and there over the years, most notably during the Fear Itself event, where he was a part of a volunteer group of heroes trying to capture Crossbones, who escaped from the super-villain prison facility, the Raft.

He also appeared during the whole Spider-Island incident, where he teamed up with some Avengers to stop an attack by the evil terrorist group Ultimatum and Flag-Smasher.

Other than that, I imagine he can be randomly seen, jumping around, trying to stop some poor, confused criminal or criminals. They probably think they're high or seeing shit. But nope. It's Frogger come to life.

YOLO I guess;)

And with that, despite his big heart and noble ambitions, I just have to say to both Mr. DeMatteis and Mr. Gammill.....

Gentlemen, What The Fuck Were You Thinking?

Hope you guys have a good/great weekend, and stay safe:)

Toad vs Frog Man - only at Marvel! These posts are great, they remind me of the old Mort of the Month Wizard features.

Mind you, can't really be a Mort when you're on the same group as Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye.

Hey you know one dude I always hated seeing show up in my Spidey comics? The Spot. Now there's more than a Mort but a major douchecanoe.

@Dan: Thx mate. Yeah I guess that's basically true. There's so many characters out there that make you wonder what the fuck they were thinking when they came up with them.

The Spot huh? Ha True, but he was featured on the 90's Spider-Man cartoon, and the recent Spectacular Spider-man one I think.

Then Mark Waid recently turned him into a demented evil villain during his current run on Daredevil.
Coyote I think he called himself.

But yes, they are indeed all Mort-ish. You can tell my love of Wizard magazine is showing. I loved that classic feature myself.

We are seriously not friends anymore.

@King: LOL! Poor King. I guess I'm going to have to make a list of possible inductees and make sure you approve of 'em before posting;)

That, and it goes to show you that even the most lamest characters have their fans or fan in your case;)

DAMN STRAIGHT! -You insult a character I love in a dream: You better wake up and apologize!!!

Hahaha- I always stand up for the misunderstood... the freaks... the unpopulars. I'm there for the oddball, the rebel, the outcast, the geek!

That last bit is a quote from The Specials. -The sixth, or seventh, best superhero team in the world!

I'm watching you, buddy...

Hey, I loved Frog Man. And the Spot. They never do crap like that anymore, funny villains/super side-kicks. Everything's too serious. Bring on the comedic relief.

@King: I hear ya' there man. Truly I do. But characters like this? Comics man; only in comics and anime would shit like that fly.

Love the paraphrased quote by Nero Wolf.
Classic.

@Random: they do have their place I guess. Hell even Spider-Ham holds appeal to me. So yeah, comics are indeed at their best when they appeal to a wide spectrum of tastes.

Still, some characters are too lame to ever be taken even remotely seriously. That should be acknowledged, like they do in the sadly soon to be canceled series, the superior foes of spider-man.
