Ok, you got me, it wasn't an "official" fight between the two, and it was Peter Milligan calling Spider-Man 3rd rate, but in all honesty if Peter and Buddy were to ever go at it, who do you think would win?
That's what we're going to discuss in this week's edition of
Personally I feel this would not only be a good fight, since they both have animal-related powers, but also I think they match up pretty good as far as classic silver age characters go.
Think about it, Spider-Man's also been a sci-fi guy who's always fought other mostly sci-fi guys. Animal Man's power set is definitely something that would be cool to see used against Spider-Man.
Let's compare their respective stats shall we?

Ok so obviously Peter's smarter than Buddy, no question about that. I'd say they both should have the same amount of combat experience, with Peter having a slight edge due to the various degrees of lethal and very dangerous foes he's had to fight against over the years, compared to the more mundane and less powerful (with some exceptions) that Buddy's faced.
But....
...I think Buddy's powers would not only be a good match for Spidey, but that he'd actually offer up a unique challenge in matching them and quite possibly even out-powering them.
How so you may ask? Well think about it; since Buddy can tap into any animal's abilities, both nearby and stored in his body's rolodex, he has shown at his height, to be able to combine and use multiple animal abilities at once, therefore making. a walking one-man Sinister Six-like opponent.
Other than the what he showcased in the weekly 52 series while stranded in space, I don't think we've really ever seen Buddy push himself to the exact limits of his potential as far as his powers go. He might even, potentially, be more powerful than Spider-Man in the right circumstances.
I mean, Buddy did create life while tapped into the Red at one point.
Either way, I'd LOVE to see a definitive fight to the finish between them to see prove once and for all who's the better man.
