So, Who Would Win?: The Blue Beetle(Ted Kord) VS. Speedball

So I'm currently working on a project similar to the one I did with Jack Kirby characters some time back, where I created a banner that said Sons of Kirby on it using Kirby characters.

This time I'm using Ditko characters and it's turning out ok. I should be finishing it up by the end of the day today and then I'll show you guys.

Today though it's another exciting edition of So, Who Would Win?, with me pitting two sons of Ditko against each other as I pit the Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, against Speedball.

Okay. so right off the bat,it looks like Ted's at a distinct disadvantage since he doesn't have super powers like Speedball does. and what exactly are Speedball's powers?

These:

(As Speedball):
Force field generation
(As Penance):
Energy blasts
"Penance can achieve a variety of effects with his newfound powers. The most commonly used are explosive energy blasts from his hands but he is capable of firing them from any part of his body via the conduits on his spikes. He can create storm-like fields of energy around him capable of harming those around him and smashing objects. He can focus the energy on parts of his body, often on his hands to form super powerful punches. He can also engulf himself in an energy force-field which gives him a degree of invulnerability and allows him to levitate off the ground."

Meaning he can create and conduct a personal, surrounding ball of kinetic energy that he can also use as energy blasts.

So, here's my likely scenario for how they fight;

Receiving reports of mysterious sporadic explosions throughout the city on the radio of his flying Bug, Ted goes off to investigate.
He drops down and sees who he believes is the person responsible, Speedball, who's in the process of defeating a gang of high-tech, flying thieves.

*Que standard superhero misunderstanding *

Ted leaps after Speedball who ducks the attack on to sound searing waves of thunderous kinetic energy blasts Ted's way.
Ted realizing he's way out of his league here, blinds Speedball with a blinding blast from his trusty BB Gun. Quickly escaping back up to the safety of his Bug to regroup, Ted begins to formulate a strategy on how to deal with this explosive, bouncing foe.

So,

The Blue Beetle

VS.

Speedball

Who and wins and why?
Let me know you think is the last son of Ditko standing in the comments' section.

RIP Greg Allman (1947-2017)

Don't know if you already heard, but we lost another legend over the weekend.....

Greg Allman, founder of the Rock and Roll HOF inductees the Greg Allman Band, died at the age of 69 at his home in Richmond hill, GA.

He's quoted as saying, " I said, other people can write songs, let's see if I can. So the first 400 or 500 wound up on the floor somewhere. Then I wrote one called Melissa."

And the rest was rock and roll history and a very lucrative career....

Well, regardless, I hope you're wherever you are, you're enjoying your Memorial Day. Hey, it's not like you got a choice since nothing else is open today;)

Play us out Mr. Allman. One more time......

RIP Sir Roger Moore (1927-2017)

Another day, another death, this time being Sir Roger Moore.

I just happened to see the brief article on CBR.com, and I was surprised that he had died quietly battling cancer.

When I first read it, it hit me harder than I expected. He was 89 and had lived a long and very fruitful life.

Maybe it's because it was cancer, the same thing that ultimately claimed my own father's life last year that did it.  Maybe. All I know is a man who personified class and grace, both as a lifelong actor and as a tireless humanitarian for UNICEF, will truly be missed for what he contributed and gave us.

If you want to know more, here's a nice link detailing his life and achievements.

Me? I think I'll re-watch an old episode of the original Muppet Show that he hosted back in the day.
Here's some clips to get you started:

So I finally went to see the #1 movie in America right now, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 with my girlfriend, sister and her boyfriend....

....and I LOVED IT!!!!!!

Goddamn was this a really good movie, perhaps better than the first even?
Someone likened it to being like the Empire Strikes Back, and I can totally see that being the case, as this movie continued to build on the developing of the entire original cast and their own stories, as well as seamlessly bring in old enemies (frenemies?) into the fold with Yondu and Nebula joining the team, albeit temporarily for various reasons.

I even liked Mantis, despite being nowhere near like her comic counterpart, and hope she sticks around for the threequel, because I'd like to see her character develop further as the new team member.

And then there was the reveal of who Quill's dad was in the MCU, Ego the living planet, played perfectly by Kurt Russell.

The reveal that he was a celestial as was Peter, was interesting, and further builds up the cast of the Elders of the Universe, much like the previous Guardians' movie introduced us to the Collector, and the new Thor movie will introduce us to the Grandmaster.

There's a few more for Marvel movies to get around to like the Runner, the Gardner, The Champion, the Stranger, Order and Chaos, Eternity, and of course the Living Tribunal.

Stan Lee had a funny cameo in this one too, as he does in all the Marvel movies, this time hanging out the Watchers, which is funny considering the theory that he himself is in fact a Watcher. Guess not.

And we caught a glimpse of the Original Guardians of the Galaxy, as this movie introduced us to Yondu's old crew in the Ravagers, headed up by Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone, who played Starhawk.

There were other OG members there like Charlie-27 (played by Ving Rames) Martinex (played by Michael Rosenbaum or Lex Luthor from Smallville) and a few other faces I can't recognize.

Now according to director James Gunn, he plans on using Starhawk's team in the future, wanting them to be an important part of the MCU going forward, even if they might not appear in another Guardians movie. I really hope so, because just the bits we got from the movie has definitely piqued my interest in seeing more of this team of Ravagers, especially since they were pretty much acknowledged as being the predecessors or "Guardians of the Galaxy" before Quill's crew were.

Then there were the post-credits, for inventively done, and of course, we get a teaser promise that we'll be seeing Adam Warlock, and hopefully in the next sequel too.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and would gladly recommend it to any and all comic book fans.

So, Who Would Win?: Clayface VS. Man-Thing

TGIT!!!!!

And so here are, another exciting edition of So, Who Would?..., where I pit two individuals or teams against each other in a fight to the death(or not) to see who'd be the last man or team standing.

Today's combatants are Clayface and Man-Thing.

Why these two? Shit, why NOT these two.

To me this would be an interesting fight because Clayface is used to being the aggressor and the scary monster-type, and in fighting man-Thing. he's going up against an opponent who's not easily intimidated or scared. In fact, people usually tend to run from him, because after all, "Those who know fear burn at the Man-Thing's touch"....so, yeah very interesting dynamic here.

In case you weren't already familiar with his power-set, here's Clayface's stats:

Abilities
(Karlo Basil)

And here's Man-Thing's stats:

AbilitiesSuperhuman strength and durability
Empathetic senses
Ability to secrete a powerful corrosive chemical agent and a counter agent, teleport himself or others through 'the nexus of all realities' and speak the Universal Language

Now as to the scenario in which they'd met up.....it's actually quite simple. Clayface(I'm going with the classic villain version not the now heroic version) has been hired to go the Florida everglades to either verify the existence of a famed portal to the multiverse, or obtain skin samples from the Man-Thing in order to make better monsters, I don't know, let's say it;s ohhhh, Dr. Hugo Strange that hires Clayface. There you go, good ol' evil sum bitch, Hugo Strange.

Clayface does it because he needs the money, it gets him away from Gotham for awhile, and it also means no Batman to deal with.

Clayface goes to the everglades, and trying to lure the Man-Thing out, he's got himself some hostages to act as incentives. This plan works, 'cause here comes the big green bastard now!

And GO!!!!

So,

Clayface

VS.

Man-Thing

Who wins and why?
Does Clayface use his unique skills and abilities to take down the Man-Thing, or will Clayface's clay hide get burnt at the Man-Thing's touch?
Let me know who you think is the last creature standing after all is said and done.

Fantasy Team-Up: Swamp Thing and Silver Surfer

Welcome to another edition of Fantasy Team-Up, where I pair up together two individuals or teams together that I'd like to see paired up for whatever reason.

Today, I'm teaming up two very iconic and classic characters from their respective universes, Swamp Thing and the Silver Surfer.

Why these two?
Because to me, these two are not your typical superheroes. They're not always about fighting the bad guy of the week/month like so many of their peers. No, instead they'd rather explore their surroundings and actually achieve something rather than submitting to the common status quo of the good guy fighting the bad guy.

And their usually not written in the typical superhero fashion either, as they're usually used to tackle deep philosophical issues.

In short, I truly believe these two characters are kindred spirits.

As to the reason they'd be meeting and interacting with each other?

Well, let's just say in my scenario, the Silver Surfer still works for his old boss Galactus, and is coming to the DCU to feed.

Due to his intimate connection with the entire planet, Swampy gets tipped off to Galactus' arrival, especially when a certain silvery surfer just happens to blaze through Swampy's home in the swamp.
The surfer delivers his warning to the people of that world, and is greeted by Swamp Thing who implores him to defy his master and help him protect the people of this Earth.
Because it's Swamp Thing and not a typical superhero like Superman or Green Lantern, Holland is able to talk and communicate with the Surfer on multiple levels, opening his mind up to the thoughts of everyone on the planet, even the wild life and vegetation.

This does the trick, and now Surfer has been convinced to betray his master, Galactus.

Now it's Swamp Thing and the Silver Surfer, teaming-up in a desperate attempt to drive off Galactus and prevent him from consuming the entire DCU.

What would your particular scenario be?

"Closing time. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here."

Well..... I kinda always knew this day would come, and it sure has. It's been a hell of a ride, but it's time to for it end. Ti...
